AirAsia 737-3S3 G-STRA - Kuala Lumpur December 8, 2004
A temporary grounding
of 9M-AAP gLath plane, which skidded off the
runway after landing at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport amidst heavy
rain on November 7, 2004, forced AirAsia to lease the airplanes to fulfill
the more-than-expected demands. Two 737-300s, G-STRA and G-STRB, were wet-leased
from U.K. airline, Air Astraeus.
G-STRA wears gAirAsia.Comh, but retains Air Astraeus blue vertical
fin and engine cowling.
Garuda Indonesia A330 243 EC-IDB - Narita December 17, 2004
Garuda Indonesia
has a large A330 fleets with ten of them, but the fleet availability was limited
in late 2004, because of maintenance schedule. Consequently Garuda leased
A330-243 EC-IDB gSabine Thienemannh from Iberworld of Spain to fulfill the
demand. EC-IDB is exclusively used Denpasar-Jakarta-Narita route as GA880/GA881,
from December 15, 2004 to February 27, 2005.
Yellow flower with circle on blue engine nacelle and yellow cheatline
on the fuselage resemble lenderfs livery.
FedEx MD-11F N705GC - Narita April 24, 2005
This MD-11 started
her career with Delta Airlines (N892DL) on December 12, 1990. Then she wanders
about VASP (PP-SPE), Gemini Air Cargo (N705GC), Cielos del Peru (PP-SPE),
and backs to Gemini Air Cargo on June 7, 2001.
Gemini Air Cargo wet-leased N705GC to FedEx with one-year contract
from April, 2005. She still wears yellow cheatline of Cielos del Peru.
Sun Country 737-8K2 PH-HZG - Dallas-Fort Worth March 22, 2005
Sun Country was
established by a group of ex-Braniff employees on July 1, 1982. It started
scheduled service from Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1984 with Boeing 727s.
Sun Country has a deal with Transavia, Netherlands to be leased
some of their 737s for the peak winter season. However the odd thing happened
when KLM needed a replacement for PH-HZU, which had severe damage after skidded
off the runway of Barcelona. Transvania leased one 737-8K2 PH-HZM to KLM and
Sun Country leased 737-8BK N807SY for Transvania. It is one month deal in
May 2005, but there were Sun Country leased 737 and Transvania leased 737s
for a while.
PH-HZG is one of Transvania leased 737s for Sun Country.
First Cambodia Airlines A320-232 S7-RGL - Kuala Lumpur April 16, 2004
First Cambodia Airlines
was established as a joint venture between Premier Hun Sen's daughter Hun
Mana and a Hong Kong firm and launched the maiden flight to Kuala Lumpur on
February 25, 2004. However, the company has suspended operations due to spiraling
fuel prices and other high costs on August 18 after just six months operation.
S7-RGL has been operated by Constellation International (OO-COF),
Volare (EI-CUM), and Air Wagon (PK-AWE) before being leased from Pacific Airlines
to First Cambodia Airlines.
Hootersair 757-2G5 N750WL - Atlanta March 24, 2005
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina based Hooters Air launched its first flight from Myrtle Beach in March 2003 with single Boeing 737. It added this 757-200, leased and operated by Pace Air on November 21, 2003, to fulfil charter flight for larger number of passengers.
Niki A320-214 OE-LEV - Frankfurt June 2, 2008
Vueling Airlines, based in Barcelona, struggling with the financial issues in early 2008, decided to cut several routes like Barcelona to Amsterdam and to lease out its A320s to other airlines. On the other hand, Niki, based in Vienna, has been looking for leasing two or three A320 to respond to the expansion of SkyEurope at its homebase in Vienna. Consequently, both airlines agreed to exchange one A320 as the short lease and EC-JRI became OE-LEV on February 15, 2008.
